Organic farming is not only healthier — it also protects the planet! On August 19, Oneness Biotech Co Ltd., in collaboration with National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), hosted the “Carbon-Storing Organic Fields” Soil Carbon Sequestration Research Presentation. The event highlighted the role of organic farming in enhancing soil carbon storage and improving soil health, marking a new milestone for Taiwan’s “sustainable agriculture” and “net-zero emissions” strategies.
Oneness Biotech Co Ltd. has long been committed to addressing climate change. Beyond funding this project, the company also opened its subsidiary, Cotton Field Organic Farm, as the research site. Oneness Biotech Co Ltd. President Shu-Ling Cheng remarked: “At Oneness, whether in new drug development, promoting healthy lifestyles, or safeguarding ecosystems, we strive to make a meaningful impact. We firmly believe that sustainability is not just a slogan — it must be achieved through scientific innovation, academia-industry collaboration, policy support, and collective participation. Our partnership with NCHU represents an important step in advancing ESG and demonstrates our commitment to corporate social responsibility.”

The study, led by Professor Wan-Yu Liu and her team from NCHU’s Department of Forestry, applied rigorous scientific design and sampling analysis to reveal the potential and value of organic agriculture in achieving carbon neutrality. NCHU Dean of R&D Department Jenn-Ming Sung noted: “Net-zero emissions is not only a global trend but also a national policy. Governments, corporations, universities, and farmers all play crucial roles. NCHU is actively developing net-zero technologies, particularly in natural carbon sinks. Through agricultural ‘Yellow Carbon,’ we aim to reduce emissions, enhance sequestration, and sustain healthy soils and crops, ultimately creating a sustainable production model.”
Government representatives also recognized the significance of this research. Mei-Ju Jao, Deputy Division Director of the Farming and Soil Support Division at the Agriculture and Food Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, stated: “Taiwan’s 2050 Net-Zero goal relies on four major transformations: energy, industry, lifestyle, and society — with natural carbon sinks as a core strategy. Organic farming is one of the most direct and effective practices for soil carbon sequestration. Over the past 30 years, organic farming in Taiwan has contributed an estimated reduction of 56,100 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent. Collaborations between enterprises and academia can further amplify the value of organic agriculture, expanding its impact and ensuring that society at large benefits from these results.”
The study compared crops such as cucumbers, corn, and tomatoes under organic and conventional farming practices. Professor Liu explained: “Soils under long-term organic cultivation contained higher organic carbon levels and greater carbon sequestration than conventional fields. Organic farming not only improves soil fertility but also strengthens water retention and resilience against climate change.” The findings confirmed that organic agriculture enhances the soil’s role as a “carbon reservoir,” making it a vital pathway toward sustainable farming and climate action.

During the presentation, a documentary captured the real challenges faced by small organic farmers and their inspiring commitment to sustainability. All agricultural products from this project are sold through Cotton Field Organic Co Ltd. General Manager Ching-Chang Hsu emphasized: “We protect farmers at the source and ensure every organic product is safe and toxin-free. For us, promoting organic farming is not just business — it is a long-term commitment to the nation, its people, and the land. Sustainability is not a slogan, but a real choice made by consumers every day.”
As a leading organic retailer, Cotton Field Organic Co Ltd. has promoted eco-friendly and sustainable practices for more than 30 years, ensuring that every product reflects responsibility toward both the environment and future generations.
Protecting the planet is not the end of a single event but the beginning of a continuous journey. Each organic farmer’s dedication is a promise to the land, and every organic field is a frontline defender against climate change. Oneness Biotech Co Ltd. sincerely invites more farmers to join the organic movement, working together to expand soil carbon storage and mitigate global warming. Let us support organic agriculture through action — choosing lifestyles that honor the land. Let sustainability be more than today’s topic — let it become our shared way of life.
